HACM Educational Opportunities
Education can lift individuals and families out of poverty and towards self sufficiency.
At HACM we believe education is a cornerstone to a self-sufficient, productive and fulfilling life, so we make every effort to connect our residents to high-quality educational opportunities. Some of these include our own programs and others are provided by respected community partners.
HACM Education Initiative - HACM's own award-winning Education Initiative helps to ensure that youth in the Highland Homes and Scattered Sites developments attend school, strive for academic achievement and graduate from high school.
Scholarships - Residents of HACM's housing are eligible to apply for scholarships to help them pay for costs associated with post-secondary education.
Adult Basic Education & GED Preparation - Community partners provide adult education and GED preparation services in HACM neighborhoods.
On-Site Schools - Two schools are located within HACM developments to provide educational support for neighborhood families. The Central City Cyberschool is a K4 through 8th grade public school, chartered by the city of Milwaukee and located in the Parklawn Family Development. At Westlawn, Browning Elementary School is affiliated with the Milwaukee Public Schools and located within the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center (SSNC). Browning serves children from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. The SSNC partners with Browning to offer academic enrichment programming Monday through Friday during the school year through the Community Learning Center (CLC) program.
