The award will support 19 HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers (HUD-VASH).

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $2.3 million to the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) to implement HUD’s Jobs Plus Initiative at HACM’s Hillside Terrace public housing development.
HACM welcomed over 200 people to its annual meeting where it emphasized that HOUSING IS the platform from which to build a better quality of life and to foster strong, resilient communities.
Created in 2005, HACM’s Education Initiative addresses issues of low attendance and graduation rates in school. The innovative program involves families in the process and works to cultivate the “it takes a village” approach to educating and developing youth.
From the proper way to install and use car seats to the importance of a calm home, families had the ability to learn about everything that comes with raising a child. The event also gave families the opportunity to take home necessary items such as diapers, baby bottles, and Baby Boxes.

Thanks to the efforts of The Bells of Milwaukee and donations from the Argosy Foundation, Herbert H. Kohl Charities, and an award from the Public Art Conversation Fund of the City of Milwaukee Arts Board, the bells on display at HACM’s Convent Hill property have been refurbished and reinstalled.
